Dual Boot : Vista & OS X

Dual boot, triple boot for Vista, XP and OS X on PC

Senario

Asalnya aku guna XP with 2 partitions. c: dan d:

Sampai satu tahap komputer aku jadi slow sebab banyak program yang uninstall tak properly. Sekitar bulan April dulu aku try install games. Komputer aku crash. Bengang!!

Aku install OS X Tiger (10.4.8) lepas baca guide dari wiki OS X Project. Install pada d:. Worked fine. Kecuali display aku tak dapat optimum. So aku tak boleh play movie.

Baru ni aku upgrade guna NVidia GeForce 5500. Display OK tapi core image dan quartz eztreme (CI/QE) not supported. Masih tak boleh play movie.

So aku try pulak Leopard (10.5.2 – Kalyway) pada c: untuk ganti XP. Dah rasa macam nak lupakan windows terus. Display OK sebab memang ada option NVidia kat installer tu. (CI/QE – supported)

Cuma masalah Leopard pada komputer aku ni bila internet connection mudah putus dan susah nak sambung balik. Kalau reboot ok. Tapi kalau biaq lama internet akan putus sebab server not respond (streamyx). Masalah ni tak jadi dalam Tiger. Setakat ni aku guna dual boot Tiger dan Leopard.

Ni part yang jadi masalah ni. Aku pi install Vista pada partition Leopard. Sebenarnya masa install Leopard dulu bootloader dah tukar dari Tiger ke Leopard. Aku tak tau benda ni. Vista worked good tapi bila reboot/start komputer aku dah tak dapat OS X Tiger.

Penyelesaiannya

Teori

Setiap Operating System (OS) need hard disc drive (HDD) to be active. Masa install OS akan set itself active pada primary partition dan tulis pada master boot record (MBR) sebagai primary OS.

Vista boleh co-exist dengan XP.

XP boleh co-exist dengan OS X.

Tapi Vista dan OS X kena twist sikit.

Apa yang aku lakukan? Nak gunakan boot loader OS X

Bagi komputer aku 1 HDD, 2 partitions. #1 Vista, #2 Tiger/Leopard

Sebelum ni Tiger OK tapi bila install Vista, Tiger hilang dan keluar HFS + Pertition error.

• boot OS X dengan installer DVD. Tekan F8 dan taip -s pada boot option.
• taip macam ni:
  • fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
  • flag 2         (Hidupkan OS X)
  • update
  • write
  • quit
  • reboot

Bila dah buat macam tu, OS X boot OK. Pi kat Terminal, taip macam ni

• sudo -s
• fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
• flag 1    (Hidupkan Vista)
• quite
• reboot

Vista dah nampat tapi masih error. Kena boot dengan DVD Vista. Click Next dan ikut arahan untuk recover. Bila Vista dah boleh boot (masa ni OS X hilang dari boot loader) , boot pula dengan DVD OS X.

F8 dan taip -s

• fdisk – e /dev/rdisk0
• flag 2  (hidupkan OS X boot loader untuk dapat menu Vista dan OS X)
• quit
• reboot.

Yeyeahhh boleh pilih menu nak boot guna Vista or OS X. Kalau nak triple boot dengan XP kena buat Vista lepas tu XP dan last sekali OS X. Cuma tukar flag # tu dengan partition number masing-masing
